Frankston Residents get on the Hotline

Thursday, 6 May 2010

South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips is concerned that there have been at least 10 house fires across the South Eastern Metropolitan Region linked to Labor’s bungled home insulation program.

Two of these fires occurred in Frankston, one on 21 August 2009 and another on 27 Jan 2010.

Frankston Residents who had insulation installed under Rudd’s program are eligible for an inspection via the safety hotline.

“I strenuously encourage everyone who had insulation installed under this program to call the safety hotline and have a free inspection done as soon as possible,” said South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips.

“As it gets darker sooner in months ahead, people will use their lights for longer periods and there is an increased danger that many more fires may occur as a result of downlights setting poorly placed insulation alight.

“Staples through electrical wires are also a serious issue for anyone who has had foil insulation installed as there is a risk of electrocution.

"Frankston residents with either type of insulation installed under the Rudd’s botched program are entitled to an inspection via the safety hotline on 13 17 92,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
