The Casey growth area will see significant community infrastructure projects fast-tracked as part of Planning Minister Matthew Guys decision to bring forward the delivery of Growth Area Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) projects today.

As part of a larger $7 million first tranche across Melbourne, Casey will see $2.1 million in infrastructure investment delivered from the GAIC to support strategic community infrastructure projects.

“Changes implemented by the Victorian Coalition Government last year have enabled us to fast-track investment in much needed infrastructure in the Casey growth area,” Mr Guy said.

GAIC funding will support the delivery of the park and ride capacity expansion at Berwick Railway Station and upgrade the South Gippsland Highway and Craig Road intersection.

“Both of these projects will significantly enhance the local community and significantly improve the capacity to cater for existing and future growth area residents,” Mr Guy said.

The Park and Ride capacity expansion will see an additional 150 parking spaces at the Berwick Railway Station. This will complement the current duplication of Clyde Road scheduled to be complete in 2012.

The intersection upgrade at South Gippsland Highway and Craig Road will improve safety and allow early development of the proposed Botanic Ridge Precinct to proceed.

$1.1 million has been allocated from the GAIC to the Park and Ride expansion project and $1 million directed to the intersection upgrade.

“After decades of Labor neglect the Coalition Government is pleased to be able to fast-track infrastructure investment in our growth areas,” Mr Guy said.

“Investing in infrastructure is vital to the social fabric of outer suburban communities and these two projects will support the Casey growth area as it continues to develop,” Mr Guy said.
