A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver $9 million to build a new and purpose-built facility for the Moorabbin SES Unit.
The existing Moorabbin SES Unit is located within make-shift accommodation in the light industrial area of Moorabbin. This $9 million investment is essential to support the Moorabbin SES volunteers whose operational area stretches from Brighton to Mentone, Dingley Village to Clayton South.
During their 40 years of service, the Moorabbin SES has had more than 12,000 requests for assistance and contributed more than 120,000 volunteer hours to help our local community.
The new purpose-built home of the Moorabbin SES will be located at the former Gas and Fuel land on Nepean Highway in Highett and reinforces our existing commitment to preserve the vast majority of that site for community use. In addition to the SES facility, we will consult with the community about other uses for the land which may include multi-use sporting fields, park and recreation spaces.
The re-positioning of the SES Unit will allow for faster response times as Nepean Highway is the major arterial road connecting their operation area.
Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin, said that the investment to secure a new and purpose-built facility is imperative to ensure the safety of the community.
“Labor has forgotten local volunteers and the communities they serve. The Liberals and Nationals’ plan will help SES units keep pace with local demand and better support those in need.”
Member for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell, said that this dedicated facility would allow volunteers to serve the community more effectively and efficiently, whilst also preserving the vast majority of green space at the former Gas and Fuel land for community use.
“This important investment by a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will ensure there are more resources in the area and provide a faster emergency response to manage future callouts.”
Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Debbie Taylor-Haynes, said that our community relies on the SES for assistance at critical times and this purpose-built facility will honour the hard work of our local hardworking and dedicated SES volunteers.
“This commitment will help support community recovery and help ensure local residents receive the emergency response and support they deserve.”
Liberal Candidate for Clarinda, Anthony Richardson, said this commitment would mean safer and better connected communities across Moorabbin.
“Local SES volunteers do outstanding work to keep their local communities safe and under the Liberals and Nationals’ plan, we’ll help them keep pace with the vital work they do.”
