Andrews can’t protect you or your data

Today’s report that up to 3000 criminals could be teaching our kids to drive or could be a rideshare driver taking them home after a night out is more proof of systemic failures under Andrews and Labor.

The day after Andrews announced he would privatise VicRoads registration and licensing, handing Victorians’ data to a private company, the government office that authorises driving instructors and driveshare drivers has failed to protect Victorians.

Today’s news that up to 3000 people with a criminal history could be driving you home or taking your children for driving lessons will send chills through many in the community.

Daniel Andrews must put a hold on his decision to privatise VicRoads registration and licensing. He also must commit to a full investigation to identify what went wrong or we simply can’t trust this government to protect our personal data.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Road Safety and the TAC, Brad Battin:

“We need to have trust that the person picking up our most vulnerable passengers or a young person trying to return home safely from a night out has had all the relevant police checks.

“Daniel Andrews and Labor can’t guarantee your driveshare drivers and driving instructors are not criminals. Now Labor wants to sell your personal details for a quick cash grab.

“A drivers licence is what you need to access your bank, it is the 100 points of identification for every Victorian. We can’t allow Labor to sell these details when there are such clear breaches and major failures in the system.”
