Andrews covers up Hotel Quarantine COVID breaches

Victorians continue to be kept in the dark as to what is really going on within Victoria’s COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine system.

The Andrews Labor Government has refused to release key reports by Safer Care Victoria into inadequate infection control protocols within hotel quarantine.

Following a Freedom of Information request by the Liberal Nationals to Safer Care Victoria in April 2021 and after several delays, the government has refused to allow access in full to the reports – blocking the truth behind dangerous breaches and incidents within this program.

The Government has claimed that extracts from the report are Cabinet-in-Confidence but has remarkably also claimed that the documents in their entirety cannot be released as they are internal working documents where the release would be against public interest.

With over 3,000 incidents occurring within Labor’s hotel quarantine program between November 2020 and June 2021, Victorians deserve to know the truth about what is going wrong and why.

The Victorian Liberal Nationals have appealed the decision to the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) for their ruling on the matter.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“This is yet again an attempt by the Andrews Labor Government to cover up its failings in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Victorians deserve to know the truth about the extent of these systematic hotel quarantine failings and to be able to judge them accordingly for their actions.”
