Andrews’ deceit hides the deadly truth of a broken health system

Under the shiny façade of a $12 billion health investment, a closer look at the budget papers reveals the dirty truth of billions being ripped away.

Labor’s so-called investment is an attempt to overshadow significant cuts across Victoria’s health system including emergency services, health prevention, mental health support and acute health in rural settings.

In a Public Accounts and Estimates Committee (PAEC) hearing today, Daniel Andrews refused to acknowledge his Government’s deceit that more than $3.5 billion of its touted $12 billion boost to health funding had already been spent in 2021-22.

With a worsening healthcare system, senior clinicians walking away, a triple-0 crisis, ramped ambulances and an elective surgery waitlist blowing out to nearly 90,000 Victorians - Labor’s spin, cover ups and broken promises are the last thing our state needs.

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said that Victoria could not afford another four years of Labor’s neglect.

“Daniel Andrews thinks he can take $2 billion out of the health system and still waltz around spruiking a $12 billion investment - it’s a plain lie and Victorians deserve better,” Ms Crozier said.

“Victorians don’t need Labor spin, just a Government that will put the politics aside, fix the problems and deliver the health services locals deserve.

“Only a Matthew Guy Liberals and National Government will fix Labor’s healthcare crisis and give the system and its workers the confidence it needs.

“The person that caused this mess is not the one to get us out of it.”
