Andrews Labor Government must release mental health reports

Lockdowns and other hash restrictions imposed by the Andrews Labor Government have wreaked havoc on the mental health of Victorians.

That is why, today, I successfully moved a motion in the Legislative Council calling on the Government to release the secret Victorian Agency for Health Information’s mental health reports that show a concerning increase in the number of mental health presentations at Victoria’s health services, particularly by young people.

The Andrews Labor Government’s harsh lockdowns have destroyed businesses, closed schools, and impacted the lives and livelihoods of all Victorians in so many ways. If Victoria is to recover, the Government must acknowledge just how widespread these mental health problems are, and thereby provide targeted and appropriate support to help those Victorians most in need.

Victorians deserve and expect the truth when it comes to just how much of an impact government decisions have had, and that is why the Andrews Labor Government must comply with the motion passed by the Legislative Council today and release the mental health reports in the next two weeks.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“We know lockdowns and restrictions have taken a large toll on the mental health of Victorians, particularly amongst young people. It’s critical the Andrews Labor Government releases the reports that show the true extent of this suffering.

“The Andrews Labor Government continues to hide the extensive impact of its harsh lockdowns. It wants to avoid scrutiny and to dismiss legitimate concerns held by doctors, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.”
