Andrews must explain sweetheart deal with union bosses on North East Link costs

Reports today the Andrews Government has worked closely with union bosses to inflate wages on the North East Link are deeply concerning.

At a time of economic crisis, Victorians have a right to know why the North East Link Project office is reportedly sharing information with union bosses to support their massive wage demands.

In 2017, Daniel Andrews said the North East Link would cost $7 billion, but the projected cost has blown out to $16 billion even before a contract has been signed.

Labor has a shocking track record with major projects and major cost blowouts.

A sweetheart deal for massive wage increases on the North East Link will leave a sour taste in the mouths of thousands of people out of work, and those struggling with reduced incomes.

Comments attributable to the Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Nick Wakeling:

“Andrews must explain why union bosses are being given inside information on the North East Link to press for massive wage increases.

“Massive wage increases will lead to more financial pain for taxpayers and massive tolls for motorists, at a time when they can least afford it.

“When Victorians are struggling to keep their jobs and households are tightening their belts, the Andrews Government must also be showing restraint.”
