Andrews refuses to rule out slugging taxpayers for Labor’s West Gate Tunnel bungle

As the mess that is Labor’s West Gate Tunnel project rolls on, Daniel Andrews won’t rule out Victorians being forced to pay for Labor’s incompetence.

In Question Time today, Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien asked Premier Andrews to guarantee that neither taxpayers nor motorists will pay one extra cent for the Labor’s West Gate Tunnel.

Andrews refused to do so – despite Victorians already being ripped off by Labor’s dodgy deal with Transurban.

The West Gate Tunnel deal has been slammed by the Auditor-General and panned by the Parliamentary Budget Office for delivering a huge windfall to Transurban at the expense of taxpayers and motorists.

This is cold comfort for Victorians already struggling to make ends meet in Australia’s highest-taxed state.

When asked, Andrews also refused to come clean on where in Melbourne’s west he’s planning to dump contaminated toxic waste from the West Gate Tunnel project.

Despite the Andrews Labor Government investigating sites in Ravenhall and Maddingley as dumping grounds for contaminated toxic waste, the Premier refused to be honest with locals worried about the prospect of a toxic dump in their backyard.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:

“This is the cost of Labor; massive cost blowouts and bungled major projects.

“Once again Victorian taxpayers are expected to pay the price for Andrews’ inability to manage major projects.

“Labor just can’t manage money and can’t manage major projects.

“Andrews can’t continue to keep Victorians in the dark about whether he’s going to dump contaminated toxic waste in their backyard.”
