When the Coalition announced a more secure facility for violent youth offenders in 2016, Jenny Mikakos not only criticised it but she compared it to the infamous Don Dale facility.
Now, according to Labor it’s apparently good policy.
In 2016, Jenny Mikakos also described it as a “thought bubble” criticising the Coalition for a “lack of research” about violent youth criminals.
The Andrews Labor Government’s refusal to build an appropriate facility has exposed staff and inmates to shocking acts of violence, one of which left a female officer “scalped.”
Victoria’s youth justice system has been in crisis for over four years, with riot after riot wreaking havoc in our youth jails. As a result, the safety of staff in Victoria’s youth justice facilities has and continues to be at risk.
