Auditor-General slams Labor’s bungled IT project

Vulnerable Victorians have been let down again by the Andrews Labor Government. The Victorian Auditor-General today handed down a damning Report into the Fines Victoria IT fiasco.

The Auditor-General found:

More than $125 million, three times the original budget, has already been spent on this bungled project which has disproportionately harmed vulnerable Victorians.

  • The Justice Department didn’t even have a good understanding of its own proposed fines legislation, prior to committing to this bungled IT project.

  • There were conflicts of interest with a key contractor whose advice was “…overly optimistic, not evidence based and misleading.” (page 10)

These bungles “impaired the integrity of the court system…” (page 25) and led to “…significant financial reporting errors including underestimating the State’s fine revenue by $91.3M in 2017/2018 and overstated it by $176.5M in 2018/2019.” (page 27)

Victorians are sick of incompetence and know it’s time for a change in government. A Liberal Nationals Government would deliver accountability and competence.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Edward O’Donohue:

“Attorneys-General Pakula, Hennessy and Symes should all be embarrassed. They need to apologise to Victorians for this unmitigated disaster that has cost taxpayers so much and compromised Victoria’s justice system.

“This bungled project is yet another example of the Andrews Labor Government’s gross incompetence and mismanagement of IT projects.

“The Andrews Labor Government is incapable of delivering the basic services that Victorians need and deserve.”
