News that Labor's $15 million dollar drug and alcohol buses won’t be on the road this Easter is yet another failure by the Andrews Labor Government to keep the community safe.
In a media release dated 7 March 2019, Minister for Police Lisa Neville told Victorians the roll-out of the 10 new, state-of-the-art drug and alcohol buses was complete.
However, just as the Easter break approaches, Victorians are now being told 6 of the 10 buses will be out of action due to safety issues.
Furthermore, reports have indicated that Victorian taxpayers can expect to cough up an additional $1 million to repair the multiple faults in these buses.
With countless Victorians preparing to travel with family this Easter, and Victoria's road toll 50 per cent higher than this time last year, the sidelining of these drug and alcohol buses could not come at a worse time.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:
“At a time when there's been a shocking spike in the road toll, Victorian lives could be placed at risk with these buses off the road.
Daniel Andrews likes to tell Victorians he’s giving Police the tools they need to keep our community safe, but on road safety this Easter he has completely failed.”
