Charity providing mental health and wellbeing support to receive major funding boost

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $1,024,000 to Sport and Life Training (SALT) so they can work with more sporting clubs across Victoria, including in regional areas, delivering mental health and wellbeing courses.

SALT is a not-for-profit health education charity that has been working with local sporting clubs for the past 7 years to create healthy, respectful and caring communities.

With programs on mental health, drugs and alcohol, respect and equality, positive parenting, positive coaching and more, SALT gives clubs the tools they need to overcome barriers and develop cultures that are caring, respectful, courageous and resilient.

This funding commitment will mean that SALT will be able to develop program facilitators across the whole of Victoria, focusing on regional areas where people and clubs often struggle with mental health and wellbeing challenges.

Liberal Member for Croydon, David Hodgett, welcomed SALT’s intention to expand further across the state and looked forward to assisting.

“Clubs are rightfully focussed on winning, but are equally committed to creating strong connections and embracing respect for everyone from all backgrounds.”

“The courses that SALT provides local communities and clubs with are hugely beneficial for those who are struggling under mental health and wellbeing pressures, giving them the long-term support they need.”
