Crime spikes around Daniel Andrews’ injecting room

Comments today from The Police Association (TPA) have highlighted concerning crime increases around the Richmond drug injecting centre.

These reported increases come despite spin from Daniel Andrews that crime has reduced in the area and highlight the ongoing community safety issues the centre is creating for local Richmond residents.

In the vicinity of the Richmond drug injecting room, Police Association data shows a number of crimes have increased in 2018-19 compared to 2017-18, including;

· A 53% increase in robberies

· Stalking, harassment and threatening behaviour have increased by 64%

· Other crimes against the person are up by 62%

These significant increases in serious crime follow a TPA survey of local officers which found the centre had caused and increased feeling amongst the local community that the area is no longer safe.

With the security and community safety of local Richmond residents forgotten by Daniel Andrews, it’s little wonder why Victorians have some of the worst perceptions of safety of any state in the nation.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:

“This is further evidence of law and order taking a back seat priority under Labor.”

“Daniel Andrews can’t spin away the fact that his drug injecting centre has caused crime to jump and left the local community feeling unsafe.”
