Damning report highlights Labor’s failure to support fire services

An independent review into the culture in Victoria’s fire services has raised questions on a culture of corruption, sexual harassment, bullying, intimidation, and a lack of support for victims. The review highlights issues that were canvassed heavily in the media and community, leading to the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner (VEOHRC) report that Daniel Andrews joined with the United Firefighters Union management to block. If the VEOHRC report was released, we could be on the way to repairing the damage, protecting victims, and improving the culture. Instead, we have more reports highlighting disgusting behaviour and bullying of those who are courageous enough to speak out. Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin, said the Andrews Labor Government has failed to support volunteers.

“The blame lays squarely at the feet of Daniel Andrews and his Ministers who worked to hide the problems,” Mr Battin said. “We know Daniel Andrews was interviewed by IBAC into his handling of the fire services reform. It’s time he revealed exactly what he knew and explain why he has failed to act. “The Liberals and Nationals will deliver better reporting options for victims, and provide better protection of their welfare.”
