Daniel Andrews cuts palliative care funding

The Andrews Labor Government has cruelly cut funding to some of Victoria’s palliative care services, as Daniel Andrews’ health funding crisis continues to be revealed.

After pressure from the Liberal Nationals in State Parliament this week, the Department of Health and Human Services overnight published the overdue Policy and Funding Guidelines for 2019-20, which detail health budgets for certain Victorian organisations.

The 450 page document reveals funding cuts up to 18.3% for Banksia Palliative Care Service, Eastern Palliative Care Association, Mercy Palliative Care, South East Palliative Care, Peninsula Home Hospice and the Goulburn Valley Hospice Care Service.

Since the 2018 election, Victorians have endured Labor’s funding cuts to dental and community health, funding shortfalls for hospital upgrades, zero infrastructure dollars for ten Community Hospitals, State Government funding uncertainty for flu shots for kids, cuts to women’s health, cuts to health protection and cuts to cancer treatment technology.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:

“Daniel Andrews said he would support Victorians with whatever end of life choice they make, and promised to support palliative care services. We now know that is not the case around the state.”

“Daniel Andrews’ health cuts will put Victorian lives at risk, and Victorians should be deeply concerned with his funding attacks on our health system.”
