Daniel Andrews delays strengthening youth justice precincts for an entire year

The State budget reveals that the strengthening of youth justice precincts has been delayed by an entire year – this will continue to jeopardise the safety of staff and workers at these precincts.

Alarmingly, 15-19 year olds are now the largest cohort of people committing crimes against the person in Victoria and our youth justice centre continues to be plagued with serious incidents and young offenders breaching security and climbing onto roofs.

The Budget specifically highlights cuts to youth community based services by $5.3m yet increases funding to youth custodial services by an alarming 23%.

Daniel Andrews has failed to manage Victoria’s youth crime crisis, and as a result our community is less safe.
