Daniel Andrews’ hand-picked CFA Chief fails to stand up for volunteers

Today on ABC radio CFA Chief Officer, Steve Warrington stated that on firefighting strike teams volunteers should lead volunteers, and career firefighters lead career firefighters.

Daniel Andrews ignored warnings that tearing apart the CFA would have severe impacts on the rights of volunteers and place community safety at risk.

In Victoria, our proud firefighting history and success in campaign fires comes from our integrated model where volunteers and career firefighters are treated as equals on the fire ground.

The true consequence of Daniel Andrews’ push to deliver on all of United Firefighters Union boss Peter Marshall’s demands is now clear: CFA volunteers have become second class citizens in our fire services.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin:

“Daniel Andrews’ war on volunteers has now extended onto the fire ground.

“All firefighters are trained professionals, but under Daniel Andrews’ watch, leadership disputes on the fire ground are placing the safety of the community at risk.”
