Dinner Plain residents fearing for their lives due to the Labor’s inaction

The Andrews Labor Government has completely mismanaged the fuel loads around the community of Dinner Plain, leaving residents concerned for their safety.

The town has been surrounded by dead wood left behind when fire breaks were created five years ago, increasing the fire risk to the town.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin:

“Not only has the Andrews’ Labor Government ignored recommendations from the 2009 Bushfires Royal Commission regarding planned burning, but it has also failed to remove the risk of a major fire around Dinner Plain.

“Residents fear for their lives due to the Andrews Labor Government’s lack of action and complete disregard for community safety.”

Comments attributable to Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy:

“Fuel reduction activities should be helping to protect our communities against the threat of bushfire, but we’ve seen the opposite in Dinner Plain.

“The Andrews Labor Government has chosen to ignore locals’ concerns for five years.

“With catastrophic bushfires continuing to threaten so many of our country communities, cleaning up this dead wood is a simple measure that will reduce the risk to our town.”
