Disability workers must be considered essential

As some Victorian schools remain open with a skeleton staff for children of essential services workers, the Liberal Nationals are urgently seeking certainty for workers in the disability sector.

The support workers and carers provide for people with a disability cannot easily be replaced and must not be overlooked amid the confusion of what is considered an ‘essential’ service.

The decision to bring forward school holidays will put extreme pressure on the disability sector at a time when we need all of the workforce available to provide critical care.

Our first priority must always be to ensure the wellbeing and safety of people with a disability.

I will be raising this matter with the Victorian Government today to ensure disability workers will be recognised as an essential service to provide much needed certainty to the disability workforce.
