My constituency question is to the Minister for Health. Recent calls for a new drug-injecting room in Dandenong is cause for concern to the people of the south-east who have seen the harm caused to the Richmond community by the drug-injecting room located there, including 80 000 syringes abandoned on the streets every year.
Comments from the government that it does not support an injecting room in the south-east are meaningless given it said exactly the same about Richmond before backflipping and opening one.
My question is: what evidence—as opposed to commentary—can the minister provide to assure the people of the south-east that the government will not backflip again and stick them with a drug-injecting room?
