Fines mess rolls on under Andrews

Today’s Report by the Ombudsman is further evidence of the shambles that is fines management for Victorians under Daniel Andrews.

The Ombudsman in her report has identified a clear lack of legal clarity from the Victorian Government, which has resulted in a multi-million dollar liability for the Councils the subject of the investigation.

The Ombudsman notes at paragraph 161 that some “Victorian Government agencies also used contractors for parking infringement internal reviews,” the same or similar processes used by these Councils.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Edward O’Donohue:

“The management of fines in Victoria has been an unmitigated disaster under Daniel Andrews following the botched Fines Victoria roll out, causing enormous distress for countless law-abiding Victorians.

“In the interests of transparency, Daniel Andrews and Jill Hennessy need to come clean about which State Government agencies have used third-party contractors to review fines disputes and the potential liability for taxpayers.”
