Golf backflip for Victoria

In another conflicting view between the Premier and Victoria’s top doctor, Golf is not in fact banned, but can be played with social distancing measures.

Despite the Premier saying that golf is not on, an email from Victoria’s Chief Health Officer’s office has confirmed “if people do continue to golf, they will need to: maintain physical distancing of 1.5 metres from other people, and only meet with one other person if they are from another household.”

The email went on to say “Accordingly, golf clubs should be encouraging people to golf locally.”

“Where equipment at the golf course is shared, the golf club will need to ensure it is thoroughly sanitised between members. People should also adhere to strict personal hygiene measures, which could include utilising hand sanitiser whilst on the course,” the email from the Victorian government said.

It adds to the confusion in Victoria where a number of physical activity has been banned even when done solo.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, David Hodgett:

“Most Victorians just want to do the right thing, but draw the line when it comes to limiting healthy activities that pose little risk.

“This is just one of a number of examples of conflicting advice and inconsistency of message between the Premier and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer.”
