The Liberal Nationals are calling on the Andrews Labor Government to properly resource services it provides to those seeking treatment and information for the coronavirus.
Victorians have been directed to an information phone hotline which has crashed and has resulted in delays of over an hour to speak with an operator.
Hospitals are also under-resourced with people forced to queue on the streets for virus testing.
Today, Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has again warned a coronavirus pandemic is inevitable.
He warned of a significant impact to Victoria’s health system.
Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:
“This is a time that we need to ensure that our hard working doctors, nurses and frontline staff are properly resourced.
“It is a concern that people are queueing on the streets outside hospitals for virus testing and can’t get through to the information hotline.
“It is essential that the resources and facilities are in place to protect those in our community who are most vulnerable and face the highest risk.”
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier:
“We’re calling on this government to commit the resources it takes to ensure all calls to hotlines are answered and people are not queuing in streets to access testing.
“If resourcing is an issue now, Victorians will have no confidence that the state is prepared to handle the situation in the case of the looming pandemic.”
