Kids suffer with school delays

Thousands of Melbourne families have been let down by the Andrews Labor Government, with only a limited number of classes returning to face-to-face learning for Term 4.

Primary school parents will have wait until week two. Parents of students in years 7-10 are still none the wiser about when their kids will be able to get back in the classroom, while Daniel Andrews tweaks his broken model.

Under the Liberal Nationals’ plan for a sooner, safer reopening, all students would be back at school week one of Term 4. Primary students should return day one, with secondary students to return day four, once the GAT is completed.

Our children have been away from the classroom for the best part of six months and it is the students who will suffer most. Staggering start days does not make it easier for families already trying to juggle many balls.

New South Wales has managed low case numbers whilst keeping children at school, why can’t we?

Victorians have no confidence in the Andrews Labor Government’s ability to ensure our kids aren’t left behind the rest of the country when it comes to their education.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Cindy McLeish:

“Every day is important. A solid term at school would greatly assist our students, not just academically but also socially and emotionally.

“This plan offers little light for parents of teenagers already struggling to keep them engaged with school.

“Too many parents have been stretched too thin juggling work and at-home learning. They just want their children back at school with the right COVID-safe plans in place.”
