Labor is all talk and funding cuts on rail freight

If the Andrews Government was serious about supporting moving more freight, it would support incentive programs instead of cutting them.

The Mode Shift Incentive Scheme (MSIS) was established by the former Liberal National Government in 2014 and providing $5 million a year to encourage more containerised freight onto rail.

Since 2018 however, Labor has cut $3 million of funding to the MSIS.

Less money in the MSIS means less freight on rail.

Labor’s cuts are just forcing more and more freight onto Victoria’s already crumbling roads.

“Labor’s track record on rail freight is nothing short of abysmal.

“Daniel Andrews has botched the Murray Basin Rail Project; the Port Rail Shuttle is still sitting idle and now he has cut $3 million of funding to the Mode Shift Incentive Scheme.

“If Labor was serious about freight rail, it would commit long term to the Mode Shift Incentive Scheme and increase its funding, not cut it.”
