The Victorian Liberal Nationals are renewing calls to stop the City of Yarra from slugging small businesses with unfair and excessive street trading charges.
This week, the City of Yarra voted to impose a new fee for struggling small businesses of up to $5,000 for each carpark space used within an outdoor dining area.
In response, Minister for Small Business Jaala Pulford only wrote a letter to the Yarra Council requesting they overturn their decision.
Today, the Victorian Liberal Nationals committed to freezing all existing small business municipal businesses levies and block the introduction of additional fees for a period of four years, including charges for footpath and road occupation fees.
Daniel Andrews must immediately match the commitment and block the unfair levying of new charges on locked down and struggling small businesses.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Small Business, David Southwick:
“The last thing struggling small businesses need is a new tax on street trading.
“The State Government should be doing more than writing letters to a council but instead, insisting on these charges being revoked.
“Labor must immediately match the Liberal Nationals’ commitment to block new or increased Council business charges.”
