The Andrews Labor Government must explain to the 1,300 Victorians whose jobs are in limbo how it failed to act to prevent the closure of Central Pier at Docklands.
With Labor in power for 16 of the last 20 years, the culpable failure of maintenance is its fault.
How is it that for years the pier was allowed to continue in operation with new leases signed and yet, with one hour’s notice, on 28 August, the pier is closed, functions cancelled and businesses left in limbo.
Now, just four weeks later, Labor is closing the pier and businesses remain in the dark heading into next year.
Who is responsible? How did they get it so wrong? Who will pay for the losses of these businesses? These are all questions that Daniel Andrews must answer.
On 29 August in Parliament, the minister in charge of the project was asked to release the report by KBR engineers and refused point-blank to do so. Now there are further questions for Labor to answer with the extraordinary further extension of the closure.
Why is this report being kept secret? The public and the lessees have a right to know.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Public Transport (Metropolitan), David Davis:
“Daniel Andrews’ handling of Central Pier has been a complete shambles, bordering on incompetence.
“The KBR engineers report must be released immediately. What is the Andrews Labor Government hiding?”
