Labor’s V/Line cap falls flat

Daniel Andrews has spent the first day of his campaign mimicking the Liberals and Nationals’ plan for cheaper public transport across Victoria.

In early October, the Liberals and Nationals announced a comprehensive plan for $2 flat fare public transport for all local train, tram and bus trips, as well as half price V/Line fares across Victoria.

Under Labor’s plan, almost 6 million Victorians would continue paying up to $9.20 a day for local public transport – instead of just $2 under the Liberals and Nationals.

Shadow Treasurer, David Davis, said Labor’s plan was a cheap imitation of the Liberals and Nationals’ $2 flat fare policy.

“After weeks of talking down the Liberals and Nationals’ plan for cheaper public transport across Victoria, Labor has kicked off their by campaign copying it.”

“Daniel Andrews has had eight years to introduced cheaper country fares but has chosen not to do so. In fact, he has jacked-up the prices for country public transport year after year.”

“How can he be trusted now that he is on the back foot? This will be like his promise of no new taxes – it is just another lie.”

“Under Daniel Andrews, millions of Victorians will be stuck paying higher fares. Only a vote for the Liberals and Nationals will deliver $2 flat fare public transport each and every day.”
