The labour force numbers released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the Andrews Labor Government is full of spin and no substance when it comes to unemployment.
Compared to the same time last year, 31,149 more people are out of work across Victoria. Victoria’s unemployment rate is now also above New South Wales and rising whereas it is falling in NSW.
Premier Daniel Andrews and his Treasurer Tim Pallas love nothing more than an expensive advertising campaign spruiking their infrastructure projects across Melbourne, every announcement boasts about job creation, but as the numbers clearly show, this is just typical Labor spin.
The last couple of months have been a complete train wreck for employment in Victoria. We’ve had workers being laid off at the West Gate Tunnel site because the Andrews Labor Government hasn’t fixed a contaminated soil problem it’s known about for years.
In addition we learned yesterday that workers building German supermarket Kaufland stores and warehouses have been left in limbo because Kaufland has walked away.
Under Labor, Victoria has become the highest taxed state in Australia and Daniel Andrews has committed to doubling the state debt, which has signalled a hostile environment to businesses and investors.
Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Louise Staley:
“It is clear Daniel Andrews and Labor have abandoned people looking for work across Victoria.”
