The Liberal Nationals are calling on the state government to financially assist Victorian families who’ve been hit hard this year, by freezing a raft of fees and charges.
The Andrews Labor Government’s second wave and harsh lockdowns has meant hundreds of thousands of Victorians have lost their job, or lost shifts and wages, but cost of living continues to rise and many Victorian families are suffering.
The Liberal Nationals have put forward to the state government a number of positive ideas to immediately assist Victoria’s economic recovery.
The Liberal Nationals are calling on the government to immediately help ease hip pocket pain and:
Freeze all household water and sewerage charges until 30 June 2022
Freeze all metropolitan and V/Line public transport fares until 30 June 2022
Provide free public transport for school and university students until 1 January 2022
Freeze all local government rates until 30 June 2022 with funding support from the State Government.
Freeze all toll road charges with Transurban and ConnectEast until 30 June 2022.
And for younger Victorians keen to get back on the road, the plan to get Victorians back to work includes half price registration to all P-plate drivers until 30 June 2022.
By reducing the cost of living, Victorian families will have more money in their pockets meaning they have more to spend with local businesses.
Comments attributable to the Leader of the Opposition, Michael O’Brien:
“Throughout this second wave Daniel Andrews has looked after his union mates rather than families and small businesses and their staff. The least Labor can do is assist families who are doing it tough because of the government’s mistakes.
“Labor has no plan to assist families under financial stress, so we are urging it to adopt the Liberal Nationals’ plan to get Victoria back to work.”
Comments attributable to the Shadow Treasurer, Louise Staley:
“Labor has no economic recovery plan for Victoria. Time is not on our side and we must act urgently to help all Victorians get back to work.
“Victorians have been hit harder than any other state and the Liberal Nationals’ plan to get Victoria back to work will help repair the economic damage that’s been done by these lockdowns.”
