Liberal Nationals reiterate call for police Tasers

Today at The Police Associations, Delegates Conference, Shadow Minister for Police David Southwick MP called on the Andrews Labor Government to fully fund a rollout of Tasers to all frontline Police in Victoria.

Currently, Tasers are only carried by specialist Police and frontline officers in some regional areas.

Tasers are important tools for Police to use when faced with a dangerous situation and recent incidents where Police were without Tasers, such as the disgraceful St Kilda Police bashing and the November 2018 Bourke Street terror attack highlight the urgent need for all frontline Police to have access to this important resource.

With record numbers of Victorians not feeling safe in their homes or neighbourhoods at night, Daniel Andrews needs to support our Police and deliver this key resource to keep our community safe.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:

“Daniel Andrews should respect the calls of The Police Association and fund a complete rollout of Tasers in Victoria as a priority.

Labor has dragged its heels on Tasers for too long, Victoria Police on the frontline deserve this important tool to keep themselves and others safe.”
