This vital childbirth, education and support program helps women who face a crisis pregnancy by providing them with prenatal parenting information, first aid classes, cooking and nutrition classes, budgeting classes and help gaining practical knowledge about childbirth and parenting.
A number of young women each year are not receiving the support they need in vital childbirth education and support during the ante and post-natal periods.
The Babes Project also works in reducing the risk of young women experiencing drug and alcohol dependence, maternal health problems, and the possible exposure to abuse or family violence.
Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said The Babes Project is an amazing example of a not-for-profit organisation supporting hundreds of women in Victoria.
“As a former midwife, I value the work of organisations such as The Babes Project and the support they provide to vulnerable young mothers.”
“The funding boost will allow this service to help more families in Melbourne’s suburbs who are struggling with the spiralling cost of living pressures under Daniel Andrews.”
“Many disadvantaged mothers cannot attend or afford services provided through hospitals and these same women can often have a history of one or multiple issues that puts them at significant risk.”
Liberal Member for Croydon, David Hodgett, said The Babes Project is helping the way vulnerable young Victorian women approach motherhood by supporting them throughout their pregnancy.
“Until The Babes Project, there was very little support available in Croydon for vulnerable women during their pregnancy.”
“That’s why only a Liberals and Nationals Government will ensure this important program continues.”
Liberal Candidate for Frankston, Michael O’Reilly, said The Babes Project provides great pregnancy and perinatal support to women who are struggling.
“The Babes Project does such important work supporting women not just around Croydon but also here in Frankston and I’m proud to be part of a team that helps back them.”
