Labor’s Minister for Roads, Jaala Pulford, today appeared bewildered and unclear about the introduction of tolls on existing CityLink roads in recent months.
The Minister appeared unaware that toll hikes are hurting families and small businesses.
She should have owned up to the fact these tolls are being deliberately imposed on existing roads to pay for the construction of Daniel Andrews’ West Gate Tunnel.
She blithely said people ‘had alternatives.’ This insensitive response shows how out of touch Pulford and Labor really are.
She also appeared unaware whether or not her Department had undertaken any modelling of the impact of these huge toll surges on families and small businesses.
As Roads Minister she really ought to know.
The CityLink Act 1995 provides the mechanism for these toll increases, and Jaala Pulford is the Minister responsible under this Act.
The question that Ms Pulford must answer: did she allow these increases without examining the impact of these toll hikes on families and businesses?
