Yesterday’s 2019-20 mid-year budget update shows that costs for Labor’s projects continue to blowout, including on the Mordialloc Freeway.
In May 2017, Labor committed $300 million to fully fund the project, before having another $75 million injected into the troubled project in the 2018/19 budget.
The mid-year budget update released yesterday shows another $148 million has had to be funnelled into the project as Labor continues to oversee massive cost blowouts in projects across Victoria, with total infrastructure blowouts now exceeding $3 billion.
Labor’s inability to manage major projects and manage money has seen Metro Tunnel drilling grind to a halt over cost disputes, ongoing industrial action across the public transport system, and massive cost blowouts rights across the state.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads (Metropolitan), Gordon Rich-Phillips:
“Daniel Andrews is unable to manage major projects without shutdowns, strikes and massive cost blowouts. Unfortunately this is all being paid for by Victorians who are being made to shoulder the burden of the increased price tags.
“Only Labor could promise a $300 million project and see it increase by 74% in a little over two years.”
