More buses, more often: Real Solutions to better connect Victorians

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver at least 45 new or expanded bus services across the state – and the best part, travel will be just $2 all day, every day.

In Melbourne’s outer suburbs and regional areas, locals are forced to use costly alternatives to get around as bus routes are basically non-existent or out-of-date.

Only a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government has real solutions to ensure that will change.

As part of the Liberals and Nationals’ strong Long-Term Economic Plan, this $160 million package will see improved services in Melbourne - from the growing western suburbs to Box Hill and to the Mornington Peninsula.

Regional towns and cities will also benefit with improved services in Greater Geelong, Ballarat, Shepparton, Mildura, the Bellarine Peninsula and more.

This follows our commitments to deliver $2 flat fares for public transport and half price V/Line fares, making it more accessible and affordable for all Victorians to travel around our state. These measures will save Victorian families around $3500 per year.

The Liberals and Nationals believe in an integrated public transport system, which is why our bus system deserves a significant investment so all Victorians can access better connections to their shopping precincts, schools, workplaces and local services.

Commuters understand the frustration of train and bus services not being in sync, so we will increase bus frequencies to match train timetables and allow for a more seamless journey.

By extending and introducing services into areas that Labor has neglected, this investment will better connect all Victorians, allowing them to get where they need to go, faster, cheaper and more efficiently.

Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said by reining in Daniel Andrews’ spiralling debt, the Liberals and Nationals can deliver more affordable and frequent public transport services for hardworking Victorian families.

“Unlike some, I want to govern for all Victorians, and that starts by delivering on good ideas that have a real impact on those living in every corner of our state,” Mr Guy said.

“People shouldn’t have to rely on taxis or rideshare services to get to a train station, a bus should get them there.

“We will deliver an affordable, better public transport system so Victorians can put those savings into what really matters.”

Shadow Minister for Public Transport, Danny O’Brien, said regional Victorians deserve better bus routes.

“There are too many gaps in the system under Daniel Andrews and Labor, and people in regional areas know services simply aren’t good enough,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Our plan delivers real solutions for better bus routes right across the state, and it’ll cost Victorians less to use them.”
