Planning chaos and confusion under Labor’s part-time Ministers

Today’s announcement of a second part-time Minister for Planning by Daniel Andrews will only mean more chaos and confusion within Victoria’s key planning and construction sectors.

This move is an admission of a conflict of interest by Minister Lizzie Blandthorn, whose brother is a director of construction lobbying firm Hawker Britton.

Shadow Minister for Planning, Ryan Smith, said being Minister for Planning isn’t a job-sharing role and Daniel Andrews needs to appoint a new, impartial person to this position.

“Victoria doesn’t need two Ministers for Planning, just one we can have faith in.”

“Victoria’s planning and construction sectors deserve certainty and consistency in decision making, but will get neither under Daniel Andrews’ two part-time Ministers.”

“This move is the equivalent of a Health Minister being gagged from talking to Alfred Hospital. It’s simply unworkable.”

“Daniel Andrews must end the uncertainty and immediately appoint someone who is actually capable of performing this crucial role.”
