PM bails out Andrews’ botched hotel quarantine program

Today’s announcement by the Prime Minister to expand the capacity of the Howard Springs quarantine facility once again shows others picking up the slack for Daniel Andrews’ failed hotel quarantine program.

Whilst New South Wales continues to quarantine over 3,000 returned travellers a week, international flights into Victoria remain suspended following the recent outbreak from the Holiday Inn.

This most recent suspension of international flights follows a five month suspension during last year’s deadly second wave – where Labor’s failed hotel quarantine program resulted in over 800 deaths and 250,000 jobs losses and immeasurable social harms.

With no return date set to restart international flights and Victorians having no confidence in Daniel Andrews’ ability to run their “gold standard” hotel quarantine system, Victoria is now the poor cousin of the commonwealth.

Comments attributable to David Southwick, Shadow Minister for Police & Community Safety:

“With the Federal Government now picking up the slack for Victoria’s failings, it’s clear Daniel Andrews has no ability to run a hotel quarantine program.

“Why is it that every other state can safely bring home thousands of Australians a week, yet Victoria remains locked off, shut down and unable to bring Victorians home?

“Victorians are sick and tired of Labor’s spin on hotel quarantine and contact tracing. They just want a safe, effective system so that we can get more Victorians home.”
