Revolving-door justice under Daniel Andrews

Yesterday, dozens of offenders were arrested in raids across Melbourne targeting youth gangs.

Under the Andrews Labor Government, young people aged 15 to 19 are now the largest group committing violent crime and the disturbing trend is showing no signs of improving.

Police feel they are not being supported by the courts and many of these violent offenders will receive a slap on the wrist and be back in the community reoffending again.

Because Daniel Andrews is sitting on his hands, this 15 to 19 year-old cohort will become more hardened and violent criminals in later years instead of receiving the punishment and rehabilitation they need.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick:

“Under Labor, there are no consequences for criminals and a real lack of support programs to prevent young people from committing these crimes in the first place.”

“Youth offenders across Melbourne are getting more violent and brazen and yet Daniel Andrews continually fails to take meaningful action.”

“The young offenders of today will become the hardened criminals of tomorrow if the Andrews Labor Government continues to ignore Victoria’s growing gang problem.”
