Victorian households will be shocked to receive their new power bills which now feature a new itemised charge for ‘off-setting’ the costs of ‘sourcing’ alternative power to meet demand.
In other words, Victorians will now be able to see the cost to them of Daniel Andrews’ mismanagement of Victoria’s energy supply.
Everyone agrees that renewable energy will play a large and important part of our energy future, but the responsibility to ensure that this transition to renewable energy is reliable and affordable falls on the Andrews Labor Government.
The Australian Energy Market Commission has said that the rapid introduction of large scale wind and solar generators into the power grid is causing significant problems to supply with the additional costs being passed onto households and businesses.
The Australian Energy Market Commission’s, Anne Pearson told 3AW this morning that a more robust plan needs to be established to manage the changes:
“We’re doing what we can at the technical and operational level to integrate those newer forms of generation but at the same time what we need at the political and the policy level is some certainty on emissions reduction and energy policy.”
Daniel Andrews is putting politics over people and once again it is households and businesses that have to pay the price.
