Statement on Crown Casino exemption from COVID-19 bans

Daniel Andrews must explain why there is one set of rules for Victorian businesses and another for Crown Casino.

Victorian businesses have made extreme changes to the way they operate to comply with preventative measures aimed at slowing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

These measures are a critical step to save lives which is why our small businesses are prepared to do all they can to comply, despite the devastating impacts it will have on their business and ultimately our state’s economy.

But while the Victorian Government refuses to announce support to help those businesses, Daniel Andrews has deemed Crown Casino a special case, exempting it from restrictions banning gatherings of more than 100 people.

Even Nevada, USA, a state which is home to the casino capital of the world, has made the decision to shut down its casinos.

Daniel Andrews must tell us why Crown Casino does not need to comply with the advice provided to all other venues which have been instructed to limit patronage to less than 100.

Comment to attribute to Shadow Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Steph Ryan

Andrews must explain why Crown Casino isn’t required to follow the same restrictions as everybody else.

While pubs, clubs and other venues are forced to deal with the drastic consequences of this virus, Andrews is giving Crown Casino a free pass.
