Supply chain still at breaking point

Workers and consumers are paying for confusion created by the incompetent Andrews Labor Government.

Chief Executive of the Australian Industry Group Innes Willox told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell this morning he’s “hopeful the food supply chain will be allowed to operate fully”.

Late last night the Freight Trade Alliance and Australian Peak Shippers were given advice that warehouse workers had “interim” approval to continue working.

Enough is enough. Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne must guarantee, without doubt, that the supply chain will continue to operate without interruption.

It follows news yesterday that importers warned critical medical supplies, food and PPE would be stuck on the docks if approvals weren’t granted for workers to move them to where they needed to be.

Now supermarkets are warning the heavy restrictions on their warehouse staff will mean Victorian’s will face empty shelves when they go to the supermarket.

Minister Horne clearly has no idea how the supply chain works - if a link is broken the whole system stops. The Andrews Labor Government needs to get this mess sorted as quickly as possible.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight, Roma Britnell:

“We can't just be hopeful. Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne must give a rock solid guarantee that supply chain workers will be allowed to work.

“The industry is doing its best to keep things moving, but the Andrews Labor Government’s restrictions and Minister Horne’s snail paced approach to react, is creating uncertainty.

“As Victorians are being subjected to the harshest restrictions in the country, they need a rock solid guarantee from the Minister that the goods they need will be on the shelves, not locked in warehouses.”
