The Liberals and Nationals have today put forward a real solution to make owning your own home more affordable.
If elected later this month, a Matt Guy led Government will unlock 150,000 extra lots of land across Melbourne and regional Victoria and has a Long-Term Economic Plan to ensure it can be done without introducing any new taxes.
This follows our plan to slash stamp duty for first home buyers, saving Victorians up to $55,000 on the purchase of their first home.
Labor’s propensity to over tax and over regulate has meant that more than two thirds of Victorians believe that if they don’t currently own their own home, they may never be able to.
The Liberals and Nationals don’t want anyone to give up on that dream.
According to figures from the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, house prices in regional Victoria grew at the fastest rate in 20 years, with the median price increasing by $120,000.
A new planning flying squad will also be established, speeding up and simplifying the planning approvals process in regional Victoria.
Our plan to cut red tape, speed up planning reforms and deliver 150,000 new housing lots in the first two years of a Matt Guy led Government is a real solution to address housing affordability here in Victoria.
Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said only the Liberals and Nationals had a plan to support Victorians in owning their own home.
“As Premier, I want to ensure more people, especially first home buyers, are able to own their very own piece of our great state,” Mr Guy said.
“Others have said that young people are happy to rent forever – I disagree. Our plan will unlock more land, make it more affordable to enter the market and make owning your own home a reality.
“For those looking to buy their own home, the choice is clear. Daniel Andrews wants you to rent forever, but a Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver real solutions to support you and your family to own your own home.”
Shadow Minster for Planning, Ryan Smith, said the Liberals and Nationals’ plan will make housing more affordable in Victoria.
“Labor has been in government in Victoria for 19 of the last 23 years – lack of available land, backlogs in the planning system, too much red tape, and high taxes have all happened on their watch,” Mr Smith said.
“Only a Liberals and Nationals Government will make housing more affordable right across out state by unlocking more land, slashing red tape, and guaranteeing no new taxes.”
