Victoria’s population shrunk last year, the only state not to have grown

It’s been revealed Victorians are fleeing to other states with the Andrews Labor Government’s extended lockdowns and lack of a COVID recovery plan driving our population away.

ABS data released today shows that Victoria’s population shrunk by 42,900 in the year to 31 March 2021, and that Victoria was the only Australian state or territory not to grow its population over the period.

The Andrews Labor Government has made Victoria the highest-taxed state in the nation, and instead of giving Victorians a plan to secure our economic recovery and some hope, all Labor is offering is more taxes, fewer jobs and more lockdown pain for families and small businesses.

Comments attributable to the Shadow Treasurer, David Davis:

“Victorians are voting with their feet, fleeing the Andrews Labor Government’s lockdowns and the surging taxes under Treasurer Tim Pallas, with Melbourne soon to have the highest number of days in lockdown in the world.

“There is no doubt this is a report card on Daniel Andrews and Labor’s mismanagement of Victoria. It is clearly a fail when Victoria is the only state to see people haemorrhage across the borders.

“Make no mistake, this is a disaster for the Victorian economy.”
