Viper squad lacks bite

Today Victoria Police have announced the formation of a new squad to tackle bikie violence, the Viper taskforce.

Unfortunately, this new taskforce lacks any real bite as Victoria’s anti-bikie laws were watered down on introduction by the Andrews Labor Government.

At a time the NSW and Queensland Governments were giving the tools to their police to drive bikie gangs out of their states, Daniel Andrews rolled out the welcome mat and created a bikies paradise.

Shadow Minister for Police, Brad Battin said Victoria Police will now be forced to react to the increased violence on the street due to Andrews Labor Government’s mismanagement.

“Daniel Andrews was warned his watering down of laws to prevent outlaw motorcycle gangs in Victoria would lead to increased violence and more gangs in our state.

“This is now a reality. Safety in the community is a genuine concern and now police are in a reactive position to fix the Andrews Labor Government’s mess.”

“The Liberals and Nationals stand prepared to toughen laws and drive out these gangs. Police need the powers to put a stop to the violence before it happens, not after an innocent victim gets killed.”
